Chase the Sun–Italy ‘24
My Coast-to-Coast Italian Cycling Adventure
On June 22nd (tomorrow morning), I’ll be embarking on a journey across Italy, participating in the ‘Chase the Sun’ race. This epic event spans 200 miles, taking cyclists from the eastern coast of Italy at Cesenatico to the western coast at Tirrenia, all within the span of a single day. The challenge is to reach the other side before the sun goes down.
About the Race
The route covers diverse terrains, from rolling hills and challenging climbs to scenic flatlands, offering a comprehensive tour of Italy’s beautiful landscape.
- Date: June 22, 2024
- Distance: 200 miles (approximately 320 kilometers)
- Start Location: Cesenatico, Adriatic Coast
- Finish Location: Tirrenia, Tyrrhenian Coast
- Start Time: 4:30 AM (sunrise local time)
- End Time: Sunset (around 9:00 PM)
- Total Riding Time Allowed: 16 hours

Why I’m Riding
Participating in ‘Chase the Sun’ is a personal milestone for me. It’s a chance to push my limits, explore new horizons, and share an incredible experience with fellow cyclists.
Testing Ground for Iceland 2025
This year’s race in Italy also serves as a testing ground for an exciting new venture: organizing a ‘Chase the Sun’ event in Iceland in 2025. We’ve been in talks with the organizers of the current race, and they are on board with bringing this incredible challenge to the stunning landscapes of Iceland. The experience and insights we gain from riding in Italy will be invaluable as we prepare to host an event in one of the world’s most unique and beautiful environments.
